The technological demands made on extruded aluminium sections by automobile manufacturers, so as to be able to ensure the required characteristics of their vehicles constantly increase and can only be fulfilled by specialists in the aluminium extruding factories. They need to take into account the demands of their customers by developing suitable alloys, products and processes. For example, Audi demands aluminium sections that under uniform load can be statically compressed to one third of their original length. These basic demands imply that extruded aluminium sections are becoming considerably more complex and thinner and must have higher strengths with increasing ductility and high dimensional stability.

World Expo 2010 made Shanghai a unique city to visit in the year, while right alongside this global gathering of dreams, ALUMINIUM CHINA was brought to life at Shanghai New International Expo Centre between 9th June – 11th June 2010. The Asia’s No.1 aluminium industry gathering for the sixth time opened its gates to 9,059 trade visitors from 80 countries. The visitor number compared to last year is increased by 3,1 percent. Nearly 50 percent of total visitors were from the aluminium applications industries like building and construction, transportation, electronics and machinery manufacturing.
The solar industry is booming. A fact which is also benefiting the German aluminium processing industry, as aluminium serves as the basis of numerous applications in the solar sector. Façade constructions, substructures for solar modules, entire component systems applied to the shell of the building or advanced solar applications made from rolled aluminium – these are just a few of the numerous areas of application which the lightweight material has conquered.
Roughly 45,000 tonnes of aluminium products are currently being used in solar technology in Germany each year – and demand is steadily rising. Many aluminium companies have responded very quickly to the growing market for solar technology. The Swedish company Sapa, the world market leader in the field of extruded aluminium profiles, is offering processed aluminium profile components and a brand new modular solar frame system. This permits customers to achieve potential cost savings of up to 15 percent through the intelligent integration of a wide variety of functions – both for thin-film and crystalline modules.
ALUMINIUM, one of Europe’s most successful industrial fairs, moves from the Ruhr to the Rhine. Starting in 2012, the world’s leading trade fair of the aluminium industry will be held at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre. A contract to this effect was signed by trade fair organiser Reed Exhibitions Deutschland and Messe Düsseldorf.
The period of the contract extends until the year 2024. Up to now, ALUMINIUM, which is held every two years, was domiciled in Essen. It will beheld here for the last time for now from 14 to 16 September 2010. Since the first edition of ALUMINIUM in 1997, the number of exhibitors has risen to almost 900 companies occupying a total area of app. 65,000 m².
Another 13,000 m² are taken up by the 350 exhibitors of COMPOSITES EUROPE which is held concurrently and has also taken an extremely dynamic development since its premiere in 2006. Up to now, COMPOSITES EUROPE alternated between Essen and Stuttgart every year, after 2010 it will be staged alternately in Stuttgart (2011) and Düsseldorf (2012).
